History

DharmaGaia is a small, independent and non-profit publishing house founded in 1992 as a non-commercial institution specialized in Buddhism and Eastern thought through cooperation with Buddhist Society of Czechoslovakia.

During the time the subjects of publications broadened: other Oriental cultures and spiritual traditions, philosophy, psychology, personal growth, new science, ethnography, ethnobotany, poetry and fiction, etc. But the corner stone of our work are still Oriental literatures, especially translations of primary sources and monographs.

Among our Czech authors/translators/collaboratores are/were mostly well-known specialists from Philosophical Faculty of the Charles University, Prague, and from the Oriental Institute of the Czech Academy of Science: Josef Kolmas, Augustin Palat, Dusan Zbavitel, Vladimir Miltner, Ivo Fiser, Oldrich Fris, Olga Lomova; or abroad: Antonin Liman, Toronto; Karel Werner, Durham; Kamil Zvelebil, Utrecht. Also philosopher Egon Bondy, and many more.
